Our hotel is named after Napoleon's sister, Princess Caroline.
Born in 1782, she married General Joachim Murat in 1800, who had distinguished himself by helping to put down the uprising of 5 October 1795 and Napoleon’s coup d’état on 9 November 1799 (18 Brumaire in the Republican calendar)..
Beautiful and ambitious, Princess Caroline played an important part in her husband's career: indeed, it was at her prompting that he was appointed first Marshall of the French Empire, then Governor of Paris, Prince of the Empire, Admiral of France, Duke of Berg and Cleves and then King of Naples.
Today, Murat’s name is carved into the Arc de Triomphe and his statue stands on the facade of the Louvre – on the rue de Rivoli side –, in allée Fénelon in Cahors and also in Italy, in Naples, Bologna and Ateleta.
